2011. A year I defiantly won’t forget.
I turned 21. Spent a week in California. Got my first speeding ticket. Went to court for the first time. Twitter changed my life. Learned what friendship really is. Drove from Florida to Kentucky alone. Spent all of my savings. Figured out my career path. Lived at the beach for the summer. Had many first time experiences. Didn’t care what people thought of me. Changed clothes in my car more times than I can count. Ate at Panera more than I should have. Two incredible internships. Finished 3.5 years of college. Broke my bed. Backed into a fence. People disappointed me. Backed into a sign at a shopping center. My dog died. Got lost in the bad part of town. Made a lot of mistakes. Christmas at the beach. Had an allergic reaction to shaving cream. Lost my cell phone. Found my cell phone. Slept on a porch. Ran. Balanced a budget. Made grownup decisions Liked what I saw in the mirror. Running tights changed my life. People surprised me. 2011.

Sometimes I'm like really? Other times I'm like really, really?
Sometimes I wonder why anyone in their right mind would ever leave me alone. Examples of why I believe this:
-Monday:
a) I get in my car, which I might add was locked, and start freaking out because I think I had lost my keys. Turns out I had already started my car, funny things is I got out of my car thinking the whole time crap I really like that song on the radio to search for my keys in the driveway. Fail.
b) I make my daily trip to the gas station, or maybe it just seems like it. I was pumping gas like it was my job, when I was finished I got gas all over my hand and my shoes which made the inside of my car smell delightful for the entire rest of the day. Fail.
-Tuesday:
a) Set my alarm for 10pm, I needed to be at school at 11am. Needless to say said class was skipped. Fail.
-Wednesday:
a) When getting out of my car I took of my ‘sunglasses’ like normal and began to walk to the library. I got half way there and began to think to myself I can’t see anything. Turns out I had been wearing normal glasses; I was walking like I was intoxicated or just plain stupid. Fail.
-Thursday:
a) Back to the gas station to give my life savings to BP, pumping Gas like normal thinking the whole time I’m not going to get this on my shoes again. I finished pumping. All of the gas I had purchased had successfully made it inside the tank, right? Wrong. I get in my car and pick up my breakfast bar, somehow I managed to get gas on my fingers which got on the breakfast bar which I put into my mouth. I almost threw up in my mouth; the only thing I could find in my car to spit it into was a church offering envelope. I look up and the man at the opposite pump is watching me. Fail.
-Friday:
a) Having a lovely conversation with my grandmother on the phone. ‘Grandma I have to call you back I think I left my cell phone on the top of my car.’ She says ‘Clay you called me from your cell phone!” All along I know she is thinking and he is the smart grandchild! Fail.
b) After being in Wal-Mart for less than 20mintues I return to the parking lot to find out that my car had been stolen. Ok maybe not, but it wasn’t where I thought I had parked. The one time in my life I need to panic button to work it didn’t, I spent the next 5minutes searching for my car. Fail.
c) I dreamed that my best friend had me arrested at her wedding for sitting down. Fail.
On the bright-side it has been perfect weather for running. Winter term is almost over. Spring break is soon. Camp is getting super close. I’m almost a senior in college. I learned I like beets. Going my track time assignments from Fuge, and I love them both. I’m dog sitting this weekend. I got to wear wool socks every day this week. Success.

my life be like.
I feel like it has been forever since I have done this, oh wait… Life has been crazy recently! I’m training for a mini-marathon, I went to California, My church started a second worship service, I lead worship at church, I fell while dancing at the Hollywood sign, had a conversation with someone that didn’t speak any English, realized that Fuge friends are amazing, got a Blackberry, saw Chelsea Handler and J-Lo all in one week, went to some crazy places, made a cool new west coast friend, danced like Oprah, failed a Latin test, ran ten miles all at once, introduced to the buddy system, got lost on the metro, listened to a song about a safe, got addicted to Special K, had two interesting phone calls both on the same day, realized that camp is coming sooooooon, went to a play about suicide, didn’t spend enough time in the library, got new boat shoes, realized that my favorite boxers are missing in action, learned a lot about myself from a complete stranger, didn’t clean my room, ate a ton of strawberry’s and my throat didn’t swell shut guess I’m not allergic anymore….I guess 2011 isn’t so bad after all.

this and a whole lot of that
I have been home from camp now for about three weeks and I feel like I have finally had time to process everything that happened this summer. But, before I get to that I have a few random life stories to tell:
-Number One: I was running in downtown Madison last night, I saw this crazy lady with a huge snake wrapped around her neck coming towards me. As I passed her I was trying to run fast and get out of her way all resulting in me almost running into the side of a house.
-Number Two: I didn’t realize how much I missed my church while I was gone this summer. I am very excited for the ministry opportunities that are happening at my church. I organize the pantry and make sure that everyone gets assistance and take care of all the paperwork. Before going to camp I was really started to not enjoy the food pantry and all the work that it produces for me, but I can’t wait to open it up again!
-Number Three: Operation Christmas Child will start at church next Sunday. I absolutely love this organization. My church had done it for many years then it kinda went away. I organized it last year and the church was able to collect 106 boxes. I am really excited to see what God has in store for Milton Baptist this year. I hope for 150 boxes, but I know that we can do more. It only takes $25 dollars to fill one box, which is a very small sacrifice.
Now to camp!
-Number Four: I saw a man washing his car on Saturday, nothing strange about that at all. As I got closer to him he had all the car windows down just spraying the car with the hose, which I found to be a little bit strange.
-Number Five: I am almost 95% sure that I am going to LA for fall break. Exciting I know, but I bet we aren’t excited for the same reasons. I get to see Maria(a friend from camp). It is going to be a fun trip I can already feel it.
-Number Six: My friend Emily Merrill was upset(hahaha) that she didn’t get a mention in my first blog so here goes: I can’t believe that you’re not going to be at Hanover this year, it’s not going to be the same without that’s for sure. Get ready September 25th is coming soon!
When I first got to Ridgecrest I wasn’t really sure what to think about everything, I was overwhelmed by all the new people that I was meeting in such a short amount of time. Everyone was so different and came from all over the country; it was hard to see how we would come to together and become the family that a staff forms. Looking back at the summer now it’s so true we met as strangers and left as family. The friends that I made at camp are some of the best people that I have met in my life. Not a day goes by that I haven’t talked to at least one person that I worked with at camp, and they always seem to text or call at the perfect time. The Christian community that was created when we were all together was something I had never really experienced before, and it was absolutely incredible. I remember several returning staffers talking about after camp depression and how hard it would be to transition back into normal life after camp. Stephanie especially talked to me about it, I am not going to lie I thought she was crazy. Boy was I wrong! When I got home I felt like I was absolutely lost, I wasn’t sure what to do with all the free time and it defiantly was very sad. I am finally back to a normal routine but I have defiantly been bitten by the camp bug and I am already looking forward to fuge 2011.

Randonmess.
It has already been a crazy week and it’s only Tuesday. First, I have wanted a new car forever and I finally found what I want at a descent price, so we will see how that all pans out. I am not getting my hopes up to high, but it’s always a nice thought. I leave in the morning to visit camp friends that live in KY, and Maria; I can’t wait to see them all. It’s going to be an epic reunion that for sure. I gave my camp testimony at church Sunday night; it went really well and made me miss camp like crazy. I didn’t realize how much I actually took away from camp until I started to write it all down, I defiantly wasn’t expecting to learn so much. I ran last night a little over 2 miles and I am pretty sure that I died 6 times, why is it so hot? When I was finish I looked like I had been in the pool. When I got back to my car I realized that I had left my lights on, thank the Lord my battery wasn’t dead. Did I mention how I am not excited to go back to school at all, everyone I see asks if I am excited to go back I think to myself do they really want to hear my truthful answer! To top it all off I randomly saw two of my professors from last term yesterday, major buzz kill. I have been watching my series collection of Friends the past few nights such good stuff!

Why is the carpet wet Todd?
I am new to this whole blog business but after asking a few people they thought that I should start one, so here goes! Plus just getting home from camp has provided me with a lot of free time and I had to find some way to fill it.
Things about me:
-Random things tend to happen to me all the time. For example, when I came home for my brother’s wedding my luggage decided to go to Las Vegas instead of Louisville. I know I don’t work for Delta but I am pretty sure those airports aren’t in the same state. That of course happened after they thought I was a terrorist when I flew to camp.
-I love politics and will at some point talk about them here I am sure.
-My bedroom is a total mess and I am totally ok with that. My Mom on the other hand is like 2 more days from a breakdown.
-I am not excited for fall classes to start at all. I am so sick of school. Maybe if I knew what I was going to do after college I would be more excited. Fun fact on my flight back to Louisville the woman that I sat with told me that her son recently graduated from college with a Political Science degree and has been unemployed for 14 months.
-I miss camp more than I can explain with words.
-I am going to visit camp friends next Wednesday and I get to see a friend from high school! It’s going to be a pretty fantastic trip, I can’t wait.
-I got a new pair of moccasins today which I am pretty pumped about.
I am going to end with one of my favorite scriptures which really helped me get through this summer:
It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect - Psalm 18:32
